Technology in the Medical Field.

For my topic this semester, I choose Science and Technology: the good the bad and the ugly. I figured that this would go good with my major, nursing. For this semester I am going to explore how technology has influenced the medical community, the moral and ethical issues of technology, and how it has improved the medical field.

Technology has influence the medical field in many ways. The technology these days lets humans live a longer with more quality of life. On the other hand, many have moral issues with using technology for medical purposes. Some religions don't believe in using the technology to save lives because they were meant to die at that particular time. Also, people get disturbed by the fact that we are using technology to do stem cell research and some cloning, such as dolly the sheep. Many people are thankful for the new technology because it has sped up reaction times in the emergency rooms in life and death situations. It has also become easier to monitor a patient while in care of a doctor.

Overall, technology has made a huge impact on how the nurses and doctors work together, with patients, or even alone. It can really be a big help but I am concerned about one day that everyone will be dependant on technology and not use their head. Technology isn't always going to work and could shut down. Although there are down sides, I am glad that we have high-tech machines today.

Learning about the technology used in your intended career now is a great idea. I know that there are careers where people go around to hospitals to teach doctors and nurses how t use the new technology that is being developed and used today. With you learning about this technology now it will give you a strong support when looking for a job in the future.

hey, I just got your comment. But yeah i don't work at bosak honda, I work at bosak motors in merrillville. They are the same owners, but yeah it is a pretty good job. I actually really like working there. Mostly everyone is really nice there. The only draw back really is that im the night cashier and you are by yourself for most of the night and it can get kind of boring. They wouldnt stack the hours on you or anything they are pretty accomidating to my schedule, and when im finished with my work i usually do hw so its a win win situation for me. ahah but like i said before it just kind of sucks bc you're alone and you are pretty much the youngest person working there.

...sorry i didnt mean for this msg to be so long. haha

I'm also a nursing major and technology in the medical field has progressed rapidly. Where I work nurses and doctors work off of computers called cows (computer on wheels). they do most of their charting in the computer and a lot of doctors put in orders in the computer. I do agree with you on when the systems go down noone is happy.Charting is impossible.Secretaries do manual orders. It can be a real pain.

Amy, we developed a couple of research questions in class, and you posted some great ideas to the discussion board.

I don't know if you are going to stay with the research questions we developed to give you some focus, but in any case, there is much you can do with what you've written here. In fact, while reading your blog, I thought of another question - "How has/can technology improve communication between doctors and nurses?"

You only need to focus on one research question, because I guarantee once you get into it, you'll discover you have much to write about.
