web argument reflection.

The web argument was one of my favorite projects that we did in 105. It wasn't that hard because it was like a mixture of all the projects we had already done. It was good to put all of my information in one place. I chose my audience because this could pertain to anyone. This could be anyone who is interested in the growing technology in the medical field. My purpose was to inform my audience of the growing technology, new expenses, the good and bad of the new technology, and everything else that goes along with it. I chose my design simply because it went well together and it was easy to read. Same with the organization. I figured it was easily read that way and the navigation bar on the side is a good place for navigation. I think its easy to understand and easy to read both sides on my topic and chose your own decision. I am proud of all the new things I have learned to do in dream weaver and I am also proud that I could get it done so quickly. If I had greater technical knowledge I might have incorporated noises or more graphics that were behind the text. That would make it a little bit more interesting. I would have improved my links if I had more time, but in general I am happy with my ending result. My research was easy to find because the topic is rapidly growing and people want to know about it. I am glad that I was able to do this project because it is something that I am interested in and want to know more about. I like to inform people about the things I learn, and with a website, you can even make it interesting.

Reflection on English 105

I have learned a lot in English 105. We did the hypertext essay, multimodal, and a web argument. So far I liked the multimodal best because I understood what I had to do and enjoyed doing it. That is probably why I did well and got done early. The thing I liked least was probably the hypertext because it was still new to me how to use dreamweaver. Once I cought on it was okay but the hypertext was not one of my best works. I like the blogging, but I would like to blog about things other than english for an assignment. Overall I have learned how to make web pages, and link sources directly from the internet. I liked learning about my major and what types of problems are in my major. The only thing I would have done different is maybe small minor changes on my projects. I liked everything we have done so far so I am glad I got to take this course.

Claim Blog

Claim:

Scientists should exercise caution when developing new technologies in the medical field. Although technology has certainly enhanced patient care and recovery, the possibility exists for long-term, sociological and medical repercussions as technological capabilities advance.

what it is I have so far.

Is technology hurting or helping medical field?

HOME

Since the beginning of Medical Science about YEAR, people have been trying to improve it. Doctors are always learning new things from each other, finding new vaccines and even new medicines. Technology in the medical field is advancing more and more everyday. Most think this is great, they are helping people and saving lives. There are beliefs that there will eventually be technology to help people to live 150 years. Most seek eternal life and think this is great.

Medical researchers are trying to do the right thing and help people and although we think of this new medical technology as a good invention, there are some down sides to the possible technology that is out there. It can lead to a decrease in communication, global effects, and frustration when the system shuts down, overpopulation, more expenses.

Therefore, one must question weather we should keep advancing technology. This project will explore the controversial issue of medical technology. Is technology having more disadvantages or is it more beneficial for the world in general?

About me:

My name is Amy Miles and I am currently a student at Purdue. I am in my second semester, in the nursing program, and hoping to graduate in the next couple of years. I want to attend an out of state college (somewhere warm) to get my masters degree and I am excited to start my life. I have always been involved in many activities such as baseball, tennis, dance, history club, astronomy club, and I have always been interested in Sea life. I like to learn about my activities before I engage myself in them, for example I thought about a Marine Biology major so I studied it a little in high school. The medical field also interests me, hence the nursing major, so I was glad to be able to do this argument for my English 105 class. I am hoping to learn more about my topic before I get into the field and deal with everyday problems with the medical technology. I hope that my passed activities and experience will help me to develop situational issues.

For: benefits examples of both

Against: disadvantages examples of both.

My perspective:

In my opinion, technology isn’t necessarily just good or bad. In the medical field it has its pros and cons so medical researchers and technologists need to watch the new inventions they make and really consider the consequences of the technology. They need to consider global effects and how it may hurt the rest of the world.

Conclusion: What learned from both sides of argument? Not pro or con. Medical researchers need to watch what they make or research to consider global effects. And consider the other consequences.

Synthesis

Academically, I sometimes have a hard time finding topics to write about. When it is an open topic my hardest part is defiantly finding something to write about. When there is a certain topic, then my introduction paragraph is the hardest because its the starting point. Once I start writing and getting into it the easier it gets. Sometimes I have trouble putting my thoughts into words too. I usually don't have too much trouble getting my point across, but when I do I have no idea how to fix it. In the multimodal this all affected my writing. The hardest part in the multimodal was starting and figuring out where to put all my research. My topic on medical technology was easily cited because there was a lot of information on the topic. Using sources can be hard sometimes because you might not know how to paraphrase or summarize or if it is even an appropriate excerpt to put into your essay. In general writing has gotten easier for me, but there are still some areas where I would like to improve. It gets hard to think of new ideas and change around someone else's words into your own sometimes.

Multimodal Informative Essay Refelction Blog

The Multimodal Informative Essay was a whole new way of writing for me. I have never incorporated outside media sources into an essay. For my Multimodal, I chose to speak to a wide variety of people in my essay because it could be to anyone who is interested in medical technology. I wanted to inform my audience of the positives and negatives of all the new technology that is popping up in the medical field.

In my design for the multimodal, I was most proud that I was able to put pictures and videos into my text. I feel like it looks a lot more professional and that I knew what I was doing. I would like to learn how to do even more to make it look like a real web page. I would have liked to put in tabs or a navigation on the left hand side, and make the title stick out more or have its own heading. I think it would be a lot more appealing if I did that and it would also look more professional.

I defiantly had enough time to work on the multimodal. I was glad I did all my writing at home so I could finish up and make it look nice in class. I had extra time to work with dream weaver to figure out some new things and to learn how to move the pictures all around.

I probably should have read through it one more time to check for grammatical errors, but I don't believe I made that many. Again, I am glad I did the writing at home so I could do a lot of revisions in class, it made it a lot easier to get it done on time and it wasn't so stressful.

In the future I hope that I can finish my writing at home so that I have the same advantages that I had this time for my multimodal. I believe that it turned out good and I want to keep improving and make my web argument even better.

Research

Research is to study something thoroughly so as to present in a detailed, accurate manner and talk a little about what you know about research writing so far. I have wrote research papers on anorexia, spider monkeys, and Shakespeare. I mainly looked my information up on google or ask jeeves. I also have had to use book sources for some of my research projects. The books are harder to find because I was never taught how to use a library. I would rather do my research online. I usually spend a few hours finding the perfect information for my research projects. For anorexia, I used online journals, books, and life experiences of an anorexic. We give attribution to the original authors so that we don't get caught for plagiarism. We use other people's words for support so that we can contribute to the academic conversation and so that we show that we have a good view and know what we are talking about. MLA and APA are different ways to cite a research paper. MLA is usually used by writers who are not required to use a particular writing style. It focuses on citing information about the author of a research source. APA is used when writing a psychological paper or any social sciences paper. It is usually used when sources are from published journals, articles, and frequently published works. It focuses more on the date and title.

reflection blog

I wrote the hypertext essay on neurotransmitters , keeping in mind that just about anybody can read it. My audience was just about anyone who was interested in the topic of how the drugs such as Adderall can effect peoples brains. The topic has lately been one on the minds of students and educators. I think students might be the most interested in my essay because it pertains to the students who have or thought about using the drug. It is very easy to get in the college community and many have turned to it before a big test or paper. It shows the side effects, what happens to the brain, and how it can quite possibly be considered cheating. Many students don't realize the chances they are taking when they decide to take the drug. I think that the design of this hypertext essay was suitable for the audience because they can easily click on the hyperlinks that they were most interested in. If I had more time I think that I would have done more research on the studies done on how the brain reacts with the people with and without ADD. I would have also liked to have more on the placebo effect and if it is in effect here. I would have also liked to improved the layout and I would make the title more interesting if I had the technical knowledge. I would want people to be attracted to my hypertext right away to make it more appealing. My goal was to create a hypertext that was easy to read and informative on my subject. I would like to accomplish good, informative information this semester and I believe that my first hypertext essay is just a glimpse of the things that I would like to do.

Kissing the War Goodbye

The photo I chose from Life Magazine was "Kissing the War Goodbye". It is the photo was taken after World War 2 was over, also known as V-J Day. It took place on August 14, 1945. My first response when seeing this photo is the passion and affection shown in the strangers actions. Not many people know that the nurse and the sailor were complete strangers, and were just sharing this special time together. This photo really caught my eye because they look so happy and its a perfect pose. I can feel the happiness and joy between the two. I strongly see the rhetorical device, pathos, illustrated in this photo because of the emotions that are involved in it. The two look very happy that the war is over and that appeals to pathos. This picture was picked for the cover of Life Magazine because the war was over and the joy was spreading throughout the country. It was a moment in time, because even the people in the background are all smiling and happy at this particular moment. It was a joyous moment for the whole country. This picture portrays the joy that the sailors felt when the war was over. It can also show a sign of victory and relief that the war is over.

Technology in the Medical Field.

For my topic this semester, I choose Science and Technology: the good the bad and the ugly. I figured that this would go good with my major, nursing. For this semester I am going to explore how technology has influenced the medical community, the moral and ethical issues of technology, and how it has improved the medical field.

Technology has influence the medical field in many ways. The technology these days lets humans live a longer with more quality of life. On the other hand, many have moral issues with using technology for medical purposes. Some religions don't believe in using the technology to save lives because they were meant to die at that particular time. Also, people get disturbed by the fact that we are using technology to do stem cell research and some cloning, such as dolly the sheep. Many people are thankful for the new technology because it has sped up reaction times in the emergency rooms in life and death situations. It has also become easier to monitor a patient while in care of a doctor.

Overall, technology has made a huge impact on how the nurses and doctors work together, with patients, or even alone. It can really be a big help but I am concerned about one day that everyone will be dependant on technology and not use their head. Technology isn't always going to work and could shut down. Although there are down sides, I am glad that we have high-tech machines today.

technology

Every day I use my cell phone, computer, radio, and other technology. People don't realize how much we depend on it these days. I use my cell phone for communication and text messaging I stay in touch with everyone I need to so much easier than before my cell phone. I love how there is a phone book to keep all the numbers in place too.

I use the computer everyday for email and searching the web. It influences the things I do because I use the internet to check for movie times, parties, and even restaurants. I use blackboard for school to do my homework and it would be hard to get anything done without my computer. I depend on technology even for my calendar. I don't know how well I would be organized without it.

Even at my job, I do a lot of filing and searching directories. It would make my job so much harder without the technology to just type it in and press search. Technology has influenced absolutely everyone in this world. Without it, we wouldn't have any of the advanced things that we have now such as cell phones, ebay, television, space travel, and even pictures. Technology can really shape a persons life.

Cyberculture

Being in my generation, I have had access to Internet just about my whole life. I have googled, used facebook and myspace, and even used blogs. One thing that I haven't really gotten to use is forums. All of these things make up cyberculture. Cyberculture, although based around pop culture, is made by us. We decide what kinds of pop culture we want to write and hear about. Even though we get to decide there are topics on just about every subject.

I, having participated in blogs before, feel like I have added to this cyberculture. I have also logged onto things such as myspace and facebook and like to read the new stories on Yahoo's homepage. Participating in cyberculture, for me, is easy. I do it just about every day.

I think my participation in cyberculture has positively affected me because it has helped with social skills. Making friends, connecting with friends, or finding friends is also easier thanks to social networks. It has met my expectations to keep up with my social life and school work. It gives me a break from online courses to check out whats happening now or who is contacting me.

Popular Culture

Popular culture, to me, means a lot of different things. I like to think that popular culture is the type of things the new generation is into or likes to do. Like in todays world things like youtube, facebook, cell phones, and American Idol are things that I would consider pop culture.

My friends and I have been influenced by pop culture. The things that are in style are considered pop culture and I like to be in style. I really like to wear Express and American Eagle. Also, the big country stars are Tim Mcgraw and Taylor Swift, and naturally I listen to them. My life is easily shaped my pop culture because I am usually into the things that are popular at the time. Movies and reality shows also shape the things me and my friends like. When we see something on television that is cute or cool then usually we are attracted to it and want to buy it.

Things like facebook can shape the way we act too. When we see someones pictures of them doing something that looks like fun, it could become a trend. Also, there are pictures and can show different styles and ways of life.

Popular culture, in my generation, just means things that are desired or media that is popular at the time. It could mean different things to different people. Not everyone is interested in the same thing, which means that there are many different aspects that are considered popular culture.
